"The Music Man," written by Meredith Wilson, directed by Linda Baker SYNOPSIS: Con man Harold Hill poses as a boys' band organizer and leader in order to sell band instruments and uniforms to naïve Midwestern townsfolk, promising to train the members of the new band. Harold is no musician, however, and plans to skip town without giving any music lessons. The Music Man was an instant smash hit when it premiered on Broadway on December 19, 1957. It went on to win five Tony Awards®, including the prize for Best Musical, and ran for 1,375 performances. The Smithsonian Institution ranks The Music Man as one of the “great glories” of American popular culture., with memorable songs such as "76 Trombones" and "You've Got Trouble (Right here in River City)."
