How did you get started at Certified Mold Cleaning?
Kim: Certified Mold Cleaning, LLC, (CMC) is a locally owned and operated company which started in 2010. CMC specializes in Mold inspection and remediation, Indoor Air Quality analysis and Real Estate and Property Management education and training. I’ve been with the company for two years as the Regional Territory Business Manager.
My primary focus is overseeing business development and education of our Property Management and Real Estate teams. We are always looking for opportunities to grow our business and market share and why we made the move to expand into Salem and Eugene this past fall. We feel fortunate to have Brian Richards as our local Territory Business Manager. Brian lives in the community of Monmouth and has been a great asset to our team with his business development, construction and restoration background.
Our success is based on the quality and expertise of our work and the strong relationships we form. Brian is doing a fantastic job representing us here in our Salem South market. Mold doesn’t play favorites here in the Pacific Northwest. Although most find these events to be scary, we walk our clients through the process as we identify and correct the cause AND properly remediate the growth, so the customer can get back to life before their mold/water damage event.
What are you most excited for in your new position with Certified Mold Cleaning?
Brian: Getting back into this industry and reconnecting with old friends and professional colleagues. I am really enjoying building Certified Mold Cleaning’s market in the Salem and Eugene markets.
What are some of the challenges you face in the industry?
Brian: The biggest challenge is people are not yet familiar with our non-destructive remediation process. In many cases, property owners are under the impression their only option for removing growth is to remove the building materials. These old school methods are costly, inconvenient to property owners and/or their tenants and in most cases, do not address the indoor air quality issues.
My goal is to educate my business partners (Brokers, Contractors, Property Managers, Insurance Agents) of the latest, most effective methods to properly remediate organic growth, handle water loss events and treat the indoor air quality.
Kim: As Brian said, our process is very different from the traditional processes of sanding, scraping or tearing out building material to remediate mold. Because of this, we have made education a top priority. We created a 1 hour continuing education class and provide it to Real Estate offices at no charge. The class covers topics like, what are the causes of mold, the health effects and our process.
Our non-destructive process is possible because of the product we use. We are incredibly fortunate to have exclusive distribution rights to the product here in the NW. There’s really nothing else out there in the marketplace that removes the growth from any structure like ours. Now property owners have access to a company that specializes in mold remediation and indoor air quality at an affordable price and doesn’t require lengthy tear-out and build back timeframes.
Exciting things going on?
Kim: We also do indoor air quality (IAQ) testing and treatment. IAQ has become a very hot topic for property owners and managers. We have made a great deal of investments into our IAQ testing equipment and technology to best serve our clients.
I never thought I would ever work for a mold remediation company, but I love it, and find it to be very interesting. We are more than just a mold remediation company, we are a customer service company. We have 200+ five-star reviews representing who we are and how we do business.
What inspires you? What are your passions and how do they impact your job day-to-day?
Brian: For me, it’s working with people and building relationships. I want to make sure customers or potential customers are aware of what we do and how we can help them. We aren’t just another company trying to make money, we care about educating our customers. We want to make your home or place of business better.
Kim: My business philosophy is to always build good relationships and educating people. My goal is to provide great customer service. I love to connect and partner with people in other industries so together we can provide our clients a more comprehensive solution.
How do Certified Mold Cleaning services work on the residential side?
Kim: For our Brokers and homeowners we offer free attic inspections and our Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) testing is $195. Our inspectors are trained to do attic, interior and crawl space assessments to identify any suspicious growth and identify what is causing it. They will then provide the client a written report of their finds along with an estimate for the recommended scope of work.
More information about the CE classes:
Kim: We provide a Free 1HR CE class for Real Estate offices. It’s a great opportunity for us to educate Brokers on proper mold remediation guidelines and what they need to be aware of when negotiating a transaction involving a mold event. It is our goal to schedule our CE class in every Real Estate office in the Salem South to Eugene.
What are some of the things you are hoping to get out of Chamber membership?
Brian: I want to build relationships, and, like Kim said, it’s always good to have your feelers out with different people in various industries.
Are there any specific businesses you would like to get to know through your membership?
Kim: There are so many…Brokers, Residential and Commercial Property/Community Managers, HOA Board Members for Condos/Townhomes, Roofing Contractors, Remodeling Contractors, Heads of Maintenance, General Building Contractors and Plumbers. We are always looking to partner up with General Contractor and Roofing Contractors. That’s what I love about this job – there are so many industries we can serve.
